DT book

Forget everything you have ever read about addiction and substance abuse. The Beast Within unveils the raw truth that addiction lies within us all, ready to take control at any time.

Ever felt so lost within your own mind that it’s as if someone else is controlling your body?

Ever felt so alone and filled with guilt, grief, that suicide felt like a viable option?

Ever thought that you would be stuck in one terrible moment, forever?

There isn’t much hope for escape. Or is there?

Is redemption really possible?

Author Daniel Thomas, Jr. writes from the heart in his book on overcoming drug addiction and hopes to help others who are seeking peace from The Beast Within.

With his sharp knack for storytelling, Dan shares:

  • Why addiction is such a misunderstood issue in our modern society
  • His personal struggles with addiction and recovery
  • How to overcome your own inner demons

Written in fiction format to protect the identity of real people, The Beast Within will spread bare the life of JT and a soul tormented by his own inner demons. It is a vivid reflection of an addict’s struggle with his own life, while grieving the deaths of friends and loved ones.

The battle between angels and demons has never been more personal.

Will he succumb to the demons that haunt him?

Will the “Beast Within” ultimately capture his soul or will he overcome his addiction once and for all?

Is freedom from The Beast Within even possible?

Knuckle down, grab a chair, and find out by getting lost in the following pages.

Excerpt from the book:

Addicts lie to ourselves more than we lie to the world. The definition of addiction
is insanity, on a daily basis, wanting to live and yet believing death is the better
option. We live only for the jones, telling people what they want to hear so they
will leave you alone… alone to take care of the craving in your brain, the craving in
your body. It’s insanity at its purist, crazy would be an upgrade. Who else could
put a positive spin on the dumbest ideas ever uttered, ever thought? Snort this,
smoke that, inject this into yourself. We become experts, experts at pushing our
bodies and minds to the brink…of madness? Death? Spiritual genocide? Yes, yes
and yes.

An engaging and creative story of one man’s journey to recovery from addiction.
October 13, 2017
Format: Kindle Edition
As the mother of an addicted son now in recovery, I have experienced the horrors of addiction– a relentless, cunning beast that leaves no one unscathed. Therefore, I read The Beast Within with interest in hearing about addiction from the addict’s perspective.

Daniel Thomas, Jr. delivers on his promise to portray addiction as an all-encompassing evil, life-threatening force that renders its victims helpless and hopeless. It is the ultimate good-versus -evil spiritual battle that requires a day-to-day, sometimes moment-to-moment fight. Many people succumb but many go on to recover. It is a battle that is hard to describe and even harder to understand.

There are many ways to tell a story and his way is engaging and creative. In plain-speaking dialogue and with raw honesty, Thomas skillfully takes the reader through his personal battle of fighting his demons, the loss of friends to addiction and his hard-earned road to recovery. Although written in fiction format, it is a vivid portrayal of the struggle for his own life while grieving the death of his friends and loved ones.

Not only does his story help us understand addiction a little better, it also gives us hope that despite all odds, people can overcome and move on. This is a very important message for our time as the epidemic of addiction pervades our society. I thank the author for shedding new light on a problem that has been shrouded in silence far too long. And I applaud him for sharing his story of redemption so that those struggling with addiction will have hope in their own redemption.

Well Done Once You Get Past the Cover
October 18, 2017
Format: Kindle Edition
Upon the request to read and review this book, I was empathetic because of the description. When I saw the cover, I couldn’t get past thinking this was some sort of paranormal or sci-fi title. I would definitely say, if I was browsing the bookstore and looking to buy a book solely based on the cover, I think I’d pass this one right on by.

However, after a reminder request came into my inbox and I re-read the description and agreed to read and review it. The author is humorous, yet very real about a serious subject. On the outside looking in, it is easy to ask, why do people use drugs in the first place? Or, why do they continue to put themselves through such glutton? Well, the simple answer is that it is easy to “judge” something when you are not privy to it, haven’t experienced it. It’s not until you’ve fully been there that you will understand. I’ve never been there, so I don’t fully understand, but I know someone who has.
I think it’s very clever how Thomas eludes that this book may or may not be about his experiences. My belief is that, although I have never met him, I can imagine he’s experienced things he’s written about on some level. He’s openly admitted that he’s done just about every drug under the sun, to include alcohol.

The Beast Within takes you into a myriad of directions. At first you think you’re getting a firsthand look inside of mind of a drug addicted person, the next you find yourself deep into sci-fi, and then next, you find yourself laughing. As a Christian, and no, this is not about religion, I have a true belief in demons and spirits, and any other form that the devil may come in.

JT is addicted to drugs. Initially you think it’s just marijuana, but something is off, there has to be more. And in my opinion, I think the story is told by JT’s psyche, the ‘high as a kite’ side. It doesn’t appear that way in the beginning, but about halfway through you start to realize that he’s fighting with the devil to put him out of his pain. He even says later in the book after trying to kill himself that he really doesn’t want to die, he just doesn’t know how to live. Once he has us under his control, the devil will send us wolves in sheep’s clothing in an effort to destroy us. He learns about a family rivalry that stems back to his great grandfather and how it is linked to the deaths of many of his family members, including his parents.

JT’s struggle while using drugs seems life-like and at times I found myself feeling for him. It seemed like all the vices in his life, threw him further into his drug use with the intent to kill him.

I don’t want to spoil the book, but God is in this story, and he sends JT an angel named Michael to keep JT safe. But God will only allow Michael to do so much. Michael is pulling for JT, but he’s not sure if he will make it. One of JT’s vices is his girlfriend Mel. She doesn’t seem to be helping the situation, but he can’t seem to cope without her. Things begin to become clear when it is learned that Mel has no life record prior to meeting JT.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say, even though addiction is real, and something that should be addressed, but because the author did put a fiction twist on this subject, after reading this book, I’m sure this is one of those stories that would make a good movie. Hey, I’d watch it. You have a story about a serious subject that takes you along for a ride as the main character deals with drug addiction, with turn after turn, a monkey wrench here and a curve ball there, only to find yourself in the end saying, “I didn’t see that coming.” This is most certainly a Netflix original or even a big screen film, if treated properly

In conclusion, I think Daniel Thomas has done a good job intertwining addiction, family rivalries, and self discovery into a tale that is movie worthy.
